Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 31, 2026
preorder-scout.us is an independent concept project. It has no connection to Scout Motors Inc., Volkswagen Group, or any other automaker. We do not sell vehicles, take reservations, or accept payments.
1. Who we are
This website, preorder-scout.us (the "Site"), is operated by the preorder-scout.us team ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for personal information collected through the Site.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Email address, when you join the waitlist.
- Anything you send us when you contact us by email.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data, such as IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit.
- Cookies and similar technologies, including those placed by our advertising and analytics partners. You can control these through our consent banner. See our Cookie Policy.
- Approximate location, inferred from your IP address (country or city level).
We do not collect payment information, government ID numbers, or precise geolocation.
3. How we use information
- To run, maintain and secure the Site.
- To send project updates to people on the waitlist. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- To understand how the Site is used and improve it (analytics, only with your consent where the law requires it).
- To show advertising and measure how it performs (see section 5).
- To prevent fraud and abuse, and to comply with the law.
4. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we process your data on the following bases:
- Consent: waitlist emails, analytics cookies and advertising cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time, and this does not affect processing that happened before.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the Site secure and working, and preventing abuse.
- Legal obligation: when the law requires us to keep or disclose information.
5. Advertising
The Site shows ads served by third-party advertising partners, which may include Google. These partners may use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to show ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites, to limit how often you see an ad, and to measure results.
- Google uses advertising cookies so that it and its partners can serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings. To learn more, see How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- You can opt out of personalized ads from many participating companies at optout.aboutads.info (US), youronlinechoices.eu (EU) and youradchoices.ca (Canada).
- In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, advertising cookies are set only after you consent through our banner. If you decline, you may still see non-personalized ads.
You can change your choice at any time in Cookie settings.
6. Who we share information with
- Service providers who host the Site, send email and provide analytics. They may use the data only to provide their services to us.
- Advertising partners, as described in section 5.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect rights, safety and property.
- A successor, if the project is merged, sold or transferred.
We do not sell your email address.
7. How long we keep information
- Waitlist email: until you unsubscribe or the project ends, then deleted within 30 days.
- Server logs: up to 90 days.
- Your consent record: up to 12 months, after which we ask you again.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct inaccurate information;
- have your information deleted;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time;
- complain to your local data protection authority.
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We reply within 30 days, or within 45 days where US state law allows. We may need to confirm your identity first. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.
9. US state privacy rights (California and other states)
This section applies to residents of California and of other US states with consumer privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas and Oregon.
Categories collected in the last 12 months
- Identifiers (email address, IP address, cookie IDs).
- Internet or network activity (pages viewed, interactions with ads).
- Approximate geolocation.
- Inferences used for advertising.
We collect this information from you and your device, for the purposes set out in section 3. We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by California law.
"Selling" and "sharing"
We do not sell personal information for money. However, letting advertising partners set cookies for personalized ads may count as "selling" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising, or as "targeted advertising", under some state laws.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. You can opt out by:
- choosing "Reject optional" or turning off "Advertising" in Cookie settings;
- turning on a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser. We honor it automatically as an opt-out;
- emailing [email protected] with the subject line "Do Not Sell or Share".
You may use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. If you are in a state that offers appeals and we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of people under 16.
10. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International transfers
We and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. When we transfer personal data out of the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, where it applies.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including HTTPS, access controls and data minimization. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we change the effective date at the top of the page. If the change is significant, we will also notify waitlist members by email or show a notice on the Site.
